The RTCO Tool Library offers over 200 different types of tools and over 5,o00 individual hand and power tools.
Loans to Individuals and Non-Profit Organizations
The library loans tools to individuals and to non-profit organizations. Tools are loaned for periods of 1 or 7 days, depending on the tool.
Tool loans are free, except for gasoline powered machines. We charge a $2 gas fee to pay for gasoline. If a member returns a tool late, there is a $5 per day late fee. Floor Sanders have a $60 per day late fee.
To Qualify for Membership
To qualify for membership, an individual needs to live in Franklin County. The program is designed for homeowners. Tenants are able to become library members as well, but their property owner must give permission on their application. There are no income restrictions to being a Tool Library Member. Only one person is allowed on a Tool Library membership. If there are multiple people within a household who would like to borrow tools, each person must complete their own application for membership.
Non-profit organizations who are working on service projects in the Columbus area can become members of the Tool Library to borrow tools. Non-profits must have a Tax ID number to become a member. Non-profits can name multiple people who are allowed to borrow tools on their membership. These names are listed on the application.
How to Submit Applications
Tool Library applications are available by clicking the links at the top of the page and there are printed copies at the Tool Library. You can submit your application in several ways:

It takes at least one week to process a completed application.
How to Borrow Tools
Once you are a member of the Tool Library, you can come in person during our open hours to borrow tools. You will need to bring your picture ID every time you borrow. We cannot accept reservations for tools, unless you are a non-profit organization planning a volunteer event. If you want to make sure we have a specific tool before coming to us, you are always welcome to call first to see if we have the tool here.
